School:
I started classes last week, and let me say, this is going to be a gooood semester. Everyone that's interning has to take an online class that pretty much consists of easy weekly write-ups...ie: our teacher is incredibly good-looking (a little skinny though) & hates grading papers, so he wants no more than 1.5 pages. Nice. I'm taking a Z302 equivalent as well - note, about 30 other IU kids are taking it, too, and we're in a classroom made for about 15. Absolute zoo. Our teacher doesn't actually teach, and although our final is 50% of our grade, it's an essay where you choose to write about 2 out of 5 questions. I think/hope that I would at least be able to get my way through two questions. My final class is my favorite - it's Intro to British Art & Architecture. Yes, I get credit for going to museums & listening to audio tours. Since when do you get credit for doing something you love? Maybe I should have majored in museum-hopping. For our first day, we went to an exhibit at the Tate Britain (free entrance opposed to paying $20, always a plus) called, "Turner and the Masters" that was about a British artist that would try to prove that he could match/surpass great rivals by creating paintings that in a sense replicated theirs, but had a different edge to them. He specialized in landscape and his focus would span from Claude Lorrain's mythic/religious panoramas to Canaletto's very popular Venetian paintings. The exhibit had Turner's painting up against the one he was trying to rival, so it was really interesting to do a comparison. Even though I wanted to take a finance class at City University, I'm really happy that I chose this one. I might as well be learning about Britain while I'm here!
Work:
Today was my first day of work! I was so incredibly skeptical because a lot of people in my house hate their placement. After my initial phone interview in December, I was anxious to start working at ASOS.com - I knew I would be working in international marketing alongside a French & an Irish intern, which sounded like a fun break from finance. I didn't want to get my hopes up high though, especially after some of the horror stories my housemates have told me. Anyway, I started today & so far I absolutely love it! I spent the majority of my day doing a competitive analysis for the states - ie: I went on fashion websites & pulled information...ie: I online shopped without actually purchasing anything. Can't say I didn't enjoy that ;). The environment of the place is great - very open & everyone is really friendly. HOWEVER, the absolute best part of my job: every few weeks they have sample sales where I can get clothes for only 1 pound. How ridiculous is that? I cannot wait. Let's hope I still feel this optimistic about work by next week!
Other than that, everything has been going well - even though I've had papers to write and a presentation this Thursday, the work really isn't too horrible. With work and school, there isn't much downtime, but oh well. The other day, I booked a trip to Amsterdam with a bunch of people in my house for March 19th-21st...can't wait! My dad's coming this Friday-Saturday & Ben's coming next Friday-Sunday, so it's going to be pretty busy these next few weeks...
Here are a few pictures from the dinner I had on Saturday - a few of us were craving sushi, so we ended up going to this place in Covent Garden. We were skeptical at first, but it was THE BEST sushi dinner of my life. There was a special where you could get 7 hot dishes in addition to unlimited rounds of 5 different types of sushi apportioned for the table...all-you-can-eat, with a 1.5-hour time limit. Let's just say, I have never devoured so much sushi/japanese food in my life, we went through edamame, tempura sweet potato/shrimp, miso soup, gyoza, japanese curry chicken, chicken teriyaki, and 2 full platters of sushi. Heaven.

Okay, time to go to sleep, I have to wake up bright & early for work tomorrow...sweet dreams :).
